Date: November 16th | Location: Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang

On November 16th, our team stepped away from the familiar rhythms of the roaster and the academy to take part in something truly special. We were profoundly honored to be invited to the launch of the “Little Barista” programme at Gurney Paragon Mall.

This initiative perfectly aligns with our mission: to inspire passion for coffee, no matter the age.

A Community Initiative for Penang’s Children

This event was more than just a workshop—it was an energy burst! Launched by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) Councillor Ms. Gueno Koay and supported by UNICEF Malaysia, the program marks a significant stride in Penang’s “Child-Friendly City” movement.

Seeing our city leaders support an initiative focused on creativity and safe spaces for children reaffirms that this work truly matters to the future of Penang.

Our Latte Art Station: Sharing the Joy of the Pour

The air buzzed with the excited chatter of 45 participating children as they rotated through various stations. Our corner was dedicated to the artistry of milk and espresso.

We guided the young participants through the delicate skills of free pouring and the fun of etching latte art onto their foamed drinks. Watching those little faces light up as they attempted to pour a heart, or seeing their genuine curiosity about the machines, was the greatest reward. It reminded us that the love for creation starts young.

A Unified Community & Strong Partnerships

The success of the event was a testament to the strong collaborative spirit across government, NGOs, and local business.

Official City Recognition

The importance of the event was underscored by presence of key city leaders:

  • MBPP Mayor Datuk Ir. Rajendran
  • Bukit Bendera MP Syeleena Abdul Rashid
  • Pulau Tikus Assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng
  • Seri Delima Assemblyman Connie Tan

Strategic & Local Partners

A sincere appreciation goes to our incredible partners whose thoughtful coordination ensured the entire program ran smoothly:

  • NAWAKA and the Community Harmony & Culture (CHC) association
  • MellowCup
  • Yello Coffee Solution
  • Project Can
  • Macallum Roastery
  • GRIND by Rasta Brew Co

We are proud to stand shoulder-to shoulder with our friends and colleagues from the Penang coffee community, proving that we are unified by a commitment to this wonderful craft.

Thank you, Little Baristas!

For us at Lighthouse Coffee, this was a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to the city. Thank you again to everyone involved. We can’t wait to see the next generation of “Little Baristas” achieves!
