If you enjoy coffee with bright acidity, juicy fruit character and a refreshing finish, Kenya Ndaroini AA is a coffee you should put on your list.

From the Nyeri region of Kenya, this washed specialty coffee brings together the vibrant character that Kenyan coffees are known for with a clean and balanced cup.

Our tasting notes are simple but expressive:

Plum · Grape Skin · Citrus

It is bright, juicy and full of character.

From Nyeri, Kenya

Kenya is well known in the specialty coffee world for coffees with distinctive acidity, fruit-forward flavours and impressive clarity.

Kenya Ndaroini AA comes from Nyeri, one of Kenya’s renowned coffee-growing regions.

The coffee is grown at approximately 1,740–1,850 metres above sea level, where the high-altitude environment contributes to slow cherry development and helps build the coffee’s complexity and sweetness.

The coffee features a combination of SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 varieties — cultivars that are closely associated with Kenya’s coffee industry.

The Beauty of a Washed Kenyan Coffee

Ndaroini AA is processed using the washed method.

Washed processing is particularly well suited to showcasing a coffee’s clarity and acidity. By removing the fruit from the coffee cherry before drying, the process allows the natural characteristics of the coffee to come through with greater definition.

For this coffee, that means a cup that feels clean, vibrant and refreshing.

Rather than being heavy or overly rich, it is the kind of coffee that keeps you coming back for another sip.

What Can You Expect in the Cup?

Our tasting notes are:

Plum · Grape Skin · Citrus

The coffee opens with a juicy fruit character reminiscent of ripe plum.

As the cup develops, you’ll find a slightly deeper grape-skin character, followed by refreshing citrus acidity that gives the coffee its lively personality.

The finish is clean and bright, making it an enjoyable coffee from the first sip to the last.

What Makes Kenyan Coffee Different?

One of the most interesting things about Kenyan specialty coffee is its acidity.

Here, acidity doesn’t mean the coffee is unpleasantly sour.

Instead, think of it as the brightness and liveliness you experience in the cup — similar to the refreshing sensation of citrus fruit.

Combined with the fruit sweetness of this coffee, that acidity creates a cup that feels juicy and energetic.

If you’re used to darker, heavier coffees, Kenya Ndaroini AA can offer a completely different perspective.

A Coffee for the Curious

Kenya Ndaroini AA is a great choice for coffee drinkers who enjoy:

  • Bright and juicy coffees
  • Fruit-forward flavours
  • Clean cups
  • Refreshing acidity
  • Complex filter coffees

It’s also a good coffee to compare with coffees from other origins.

For example, our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Adado leans towards floral, berry and citrus characteristics, while Kenya Ndaroini AA brings a more juicy plum and grape-like character.

The differences between the two are a great reminder that coffee flavour is strongly influenced by origin, variety, altitude and processing.

How We Roast It

At Lighthouse Coffee, we roast Kenya Ndaroini AA to a medium roast.

Our goal is to preserve the coffee’s vibrant acidity and fruit character while developing enough sweetness and structure to create a balanced cup.

For this coffee, we particularly recommend filter brewing.

We recommend trying it with:

  • V60
  • Pour Over
  • Other filter brewing methods

Try brewing it with a slightly cooler temperature or allowing the coffee to cool in the cup. As the temperature changes, you may notice the fruit and citrus characteristics becoming more pronounced.

A Different Kind of Coffee Experience

Specialty coffee gives us the opportunity to experience how different regions can create completely different flavour profiles.

Colombia can bring tropical sweetness.

Ethiopia can bring floral and delicate fruit characteristics.

Kenya can bring brightness, juicy acidity and distinctive fruit flavours.

Kenya Ndaroini AA is our invitation to explore that difference.

Bright. Juicy. Clean. Refreshing.

It’s a coffee that doesn’t need to be complicated to be memorable.
