Meet Peru Pomahuaca Jaen: A Balanced and Comforting Specialty Coffee

Not every specialty coffee needs to be loud or intensely fruity.

Sometimes, the best coffee is the one that feels familiar — balanced, sweet and easy to enjoy, while still offering enough complexity to keep you coming back for another cup.

Peru Pomahuaca Jaen is one of those coffees.

From Cajamarca, Peru, this washed specialty coffee brings together citrus fruits, berries, chocolate and honey for a cup that is both expressive and comforting.

If you’re looking for a specialty coffee that’s approachable enough for everyday brewing, this is a great place to start.

From Cajamarca, Peru

Peru is home to a diverse range of coffee-growing regions, with many farms located in high-altitude mountainous areas.

Our Peru Pomahuaca Jaen comes from Cajamarca, one of Peru’s important coffee-producing regions.

The coffee is grown at approximately 1,600–1,800 metres above sea level, where the combination of altitude, climate and coffee-growing conditions helps develop sweetness and complexity in the cherries.

The coffee uses a combination of Caturra, Bourbon and Pache varieties.

A Clean and Balanced Washed Coffee

Pomahuaca Jaen is processed using the washed method.

Washed processing is known for producing a clean and well-defined cup, allowing the natural characteristics of the coffee to come through clearly.

For this coffee, that means you can experience the balance between bright fruit and deeper sweetness without one characteristic overpowering the other.

It’s approachable, but there is still plenty to discover.

What Can You Expect in the Cup?

Our tasting notes are:

Citrus Fruits · Berries · Chocolate · Honey

The coffee starts with a pleasant citrus brightness, followed by soft berry sweetness.

As the cup develops, chocolate and honey notes add depth and roundness, creating a smooth finish that makes the coffee easy to enjoy.

It’s this combination of fruit, sweetness and chocolate that gives Peru Pomahuaca Jaen its versatility.

A Specialty Coffee for Everyday Moments

Some specialty coffees are perfect when you want to sit down and analyse every detail.

Others are simply enjoyable from the first sip.

Peru Pomahuaca Jaen sits somewhere in between.

It has enough complexity to make it interesting for coffee enthusiasts, while its balanced sweetness and chocolate character make it approachable for someone who is just beginning to explore specialty coffee.

It’s a coffee you can enjoy:

In the morning.
During a quiet afternoon.
While working.
Or simply because you want a good cup of coffee.

What Makes This Coffee Different?

When exploring specialty coffee, it’s easy to think that every coffee needs to have strong acidity or unusual fermentation flavours.

But specialty coffee is much broader than that.

Peru Pomahuaca Jaen shows how a coffee can be balanced, sweet and comforting while still expressing the characteristics of its origin.

Compared with our other selections:

  • Colombia Caldas El Renacer brings tropical and juicy watermelon character.
  • Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Adado highlights floral, berry and citrus notes.
  • Kenya Ndaroini AA delivers bright plum, grape skin and citrus.
  • Peru Pomahuaca Jaen brings everything a little closer to home with chocolate, honey, berries and citrus.

Four origins. Four different experiences.

How We Roast It

At Lighthouse Coffee, we roast Peru Pomahuaca Jaen to a medium roast.

The goal is to develop sweetness and body while maintaining the coffee’s fruit character and clean finish.

Its balanced profile makes it particularly versatile across different brewing methods.

We recommend trying it with:

  • V60
  • Pour Over
  • French Press
  • Other filter brewing methods

If you prefer a fuller and more comforting cup, try a slightly longer brew. For a brighter and cleaner expression, a pour-over method can bring out more of the citrus and berry character.

A Coffee You Can Come Back To

There is something special about a coffee that doesn’t demand your attention but rewards it.

Peru Pomahuaca Jaen is that kind of coffee.

It has fruit when you want to explore, chocolate when you’re looking for comfort, and honey-like sweetness that ties everything together.

It’s approachable enough for everyday drinking, but interesting enough to keep you curious.
